Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is microneedling?

A: Microneedling (also known as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) has been used for decades by dermatologists for treating scars, but in recent years has also become popular for treating wrinkles, pigmentation and other skin issues.

The process uses a pen-shaped tool to deliver tiny punctures
to the skin using tiny needles moving very fast vertically in a stamping motion. This stimulates the natural healing process in the skin, resulting in production of new collagen and elastin and
a rejuvenated and more youthful complexion. To help with this process, active solutions containing collagen, vitamins and other beneficial ingredients are applied and penetrate the deeper layers of the skin through these tiny channels, to maximise the bene ts.

Q: What skin conditions can Dermapen treat?

A: Dermapen microneedling can help treat the following skin conditions:

  • Diminish the appearance of scars and stretch marks.

  • Improve the texture and overall appearance of the skin

  • Reduce the volume of blackheads appearing on the skin

  • Reduce pore size resulting in smoother skin

  • Help stop acne and cystic acne progression

  • Exfoliate skin thoroughly and remove dead skin

  • Slow down the signs of skin ageing as evidenced by reduced ne lines and wrinkles

Q: How is the Dermapen4TM di erent to other microneedlingtreatments?

A: Dermapen is the original and most trusted automated microneedling brand for this innovative anti-ageing and scar correction treatment. Dermapen technology has signi cant bene ts over dermal-rolling and Fractional laser treatments, due to the minimal trauma in icted upon your skin. This allows your skin to spend more effort ghting the ailment itself, rather than collateral damage in icted during the procedure.

Advances in technology means the latest version device, the Dermapen4TM, is safer than ever, with an anti-contamination mechanism, revolutionary 16 needle cartridge design, and increased speed to keep the needles from dragging. Dermapen4TM is also the only microneedling device with a dedicated scar setting, suitable for surgical, burn, striae and post-acne scars.

Q: Is Dermapen microneedling safe, is it good for the skin?

A: When all safety standards are adhered to, Dermapen microneedling is a very safe treatment. This is because skin needling works by using the natural process of your skin’s rejuvenation, unlike more invasive treatments, to reduce signs of ageing and help improve a variety of skin concerns.

    Q: Are Dermapen treatments painful?

A: Scared of needles? Not to worry, you’ll barely see these mini micro needles, which merely “stamp” together on the top layer of the skin, rather than “’injecting” into you. The purpose is to

create the tiniest channel punctures, and the Dermapen4TM has more, faster-moving needles than ever before, with a speed of 120 rotations per second. Pain will be minimal compared to traditional microneedling and there is no need for numbing cream.

Q: How should clients prepare for microneedling?

A: It’s best you don’t have excessive sun exposure for a couple weeks before your treatment, and it’s important you haven’t used any self tanner (fake tan) for a week prior to your treatment. This is because you need the skin to be completely clean.

Q: How many sessions of Dermapen are needed?

A: The amount of treatments required generally depends on which skin area is to be treated, and what the client is wanting to achieve. If they’re wanting to treat extreme sun damage, deep wrinkles or scars, they may need six treatments for the optimal results. Basic skin conditions such as pigmentation and ne lines may only need between three and four treatments for great results. Clinic is to advise on the frequency of the treatments, but usually between 3 and 8 weeks apart.

Q: How many sessions of Dermapen are needed?

A: Results can be seen skin straight away, in that skin will be brighter and plumper for the next few weeks. However, the best results will be visible a few months later, once the new collagen and elastin has been regenerated by the skin. This will continue to improve with more treatment.

Q: What does the skin look like after treatment?

A: Straight after a treatment skin will be noticably plumper and glowing – but also a little hot and pink, similar to windburn. This may last for 6 to 24 hours, so it’s not advised to do a Dermapen treatment in the two days before an event. Clinician is to apply a protective lotion called Dp Dermaceuticals Cover Recover which will reduce redness with a cooling effect, as well as providing coverage and SPF-30 sun protection.

Q: How to look after the skin after treatment?

A: There’s no need to cleanse or moisturise the skin for approx. 12 hours, with moisturising DP products applied, so don’t wash or apply any creams before bed. It’s important to avoid sun exposure, and for 24 hours post-treatment to minimise use of active skin products and non-mineral makeup. Skin may feel a little dry the few days post treatment, after which it will become smooth and radiant within a week.
